Chilly temps continue ahead of potent weekend system
Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
Happy Tuesday everyone, I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Day. We finally have a few peaks of sunshine on the way for your Tuesday. However, it will still be a chilly day. Temperatures will struggle to reach the low 40s. Overnight temperatures will fall into the mid-to-upper 20s with partly cloudy skies. Bundle up as you head out the door on Wednesday with those temps in the 20s. There is a week system that will move through the region late Wednesday into early Thursday. This will bring the chance of a few showers in southern and southeastern Kentucky late Wednesday, with a few flakes possible in eastern Kentucky to start the day on Thursday. Overall, this system won’t make much of an impact across the region.
There is a system that will bring impacts across the region and that moves in this weekend. Rain and snow now looking likely Saturday into Sunday. There are still a lot of uncertainties surrounding what exact impacts we will see here locally. The exact track of the system will make all the difference.
The biggest uncertainties surround how warmer air will impact the precipitation type across central and eastern Kentucky. If more warm air works it’s way into the system, it’s less likely we see much accumulating snow and most will see rain or a rain/snow mix as opposed to snow. It’s still too early to be talking about the fine details of which areas will what type of precipitation. Stay tuned to the ABC 36 Storm Team as we continue to monitor this threat in the coming days.
