Chilly start to Wednesday with a few afternoon rain showers

Afternoon highs will return to the mid-50s on Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A chilly start to your Wednesday morning with temperatures dipping into the low-to-mid 30s, making for a frosty beginning across much of central and eastern Kentucky. As the day progresses, expect seasonably cool conditions with afternoon highs reaching the mid-to-upper 50s. A few midday and afternoon showers may develop, but rainfall amounts will be minimal.

Skies clear out tonight as temperatures fall into the mid-30s. Looking ahead to Thursday, we’ll see a gradual warm-up with highs climbing into the low 60s. Rain chances will increase into the afternoon and evening, with a few rumbles of thunder possible late Thursday night as a warm front lifts northward.

Friday Warm-Up & Weekend Storm Chances

That warm front will push northward throughout Friday, bringing a significant temperature jump into the mid-to-upper 70s. Friday should feature breezy conditions with dry periods for most of the day.

The weekend remains unsettled with warm temperatures and the potential for scattered showers and a few storms on Saturday. A more organized system arrives late Sunday into Sunday night, bringing the risk of strong-to-severe storms. The entire state remains under a Slight Risk (15% or greater chance) for severe weather, with all severe threats—including damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes—on the table, especially Sunday evening.

Make sure to stay weather-aware heading into late Sunday, as this system will be followed by a cold front sweeping through on Monday, leading to a noticeable cooldown to start April.
