Chase ends in fiery crash; teenager arrested

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A teenager is accused of nearly hitting a Kentucky State Trooper, and two people along the road after running from authorities on two separate occasions Thursday in Laurel County.

Deputies say 18-year old Mickey Wayne Grubb, of Corbin, was finally arrested after a chase that ended in a fiery crash and foot chase, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say Grubb nearly struck Trooper Michelle Lang on Laurel Whitley Road after she tried to pull him over for reckless driving.

A short time later, Laurel County Sheriff’s Major Chuck Johnson says he saw Grubb run a stop sign at a high rate of speed on Hopkins Cemetery Road at McClure Bridge Road, which led to a several mile chase.

Major Johnson says during the chase, Grubb almost hit two people who were standing along the road.

Grubb eventually lost control of the Pontiac G6 he was driving on Barron Road and struck an embankment.  The car burst into flames and Grubb took off running, according to investigators.  He was arrested after a short foot chase.

Several deputies destroyed their uniforms in a thicket during the foot chase, according to investigators.

Deputies say Grubb faces a number of charges in connection to Thursday’s incidents, but they say he’s also accused of stealing a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado off Byble Road between August 8 and 13, 2019.

He was taken to the Laurel County Detention Center.
