CentrePointe Blasting Times Changing In Downtown Lexington
People around downtown Lexington might feel two blasts on Monday as construction crews make room for an underground parking garage at the CentrePointe site.
Construction crews have been blasting only once a day, but starting Monday, April 21, 2014, blasting increases to twice daily for much of the week.
The new schedule includes two blasts per day according to a press release from the city. The blasts will occur Monday through Thursday, at approximately 9:30am and 2:00pm.
Blasting will also occur on Friday at approximately 10:00am.
City officials said that no weekend blasting is currently scheduled.
State law requires a horn to sound and traffic to shut down approximately five minutes prior to each blast. Each stoppage is expected to last 5 to 10 minutes. Traffic will be stopped at four intersections around the Centre Pointe block:
- Main St. at Limestone St.
- Upper St. at Main St.
- Vine St. at Upper St.
- Limestone St. at Vine St.
People who live or work downtown are encouraged to sign up for text message alerts about the blasting by texting BLASTING to 46786. An automated message will be sent approximately five minutes prior to each blast and when the all clear is given after the blast. Other updates on the blasting will be sent as necessary.
