Central Branch of Public Library new site for City Hall? Possibly…

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A statement from Mayor Jim Gray’s office appears to suggest that the Central Library location in downtown Lexington is being considered for City Hall.

The statement reads, in part, “The city has advertised for a consultant to study whether the library building would be a good fit for city hall.  This process is just beginning, and there is a lot of work to do before any decisions can be made.”

The release continues, saying that City Hall’s current location is “housed in a historic hotel,” that is, “expensive to maintain and… was never designed to house offices.”

The statement also says that library services have changed since the Central Branch was opened in 1989, and that the current location “does not meet the Library’s current and projected service needs for the community.”
