CDC: Re-test shows Lexington baby does not have Zika virus
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An infant in Lexington, suspected of having been infected with the Zika virus, has now tested negative.
The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department now says the child was not exposed to the virus in the womb, as they originally thought in July.
According to the health department, the child’s mother had traveled internationally and was bitten by a mosquito.
The CDC reported that earlier test results showed the baby had been infected, but after re-testing, they now say the child’s results came up clean.
