Cats finding plenty of support from Solid Blue fans in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (WTVQ) – The University of Kentucky football team is in Orlando preparing for the Citrus Bowl and there are plenty of Solid Blue fans there to support them.

Dave Montiel is the defensive coordinator for the Cardinal Gibbons High School football team in Ft. Lauderdale.

He made the trip from south Florida to watch the Cats practice on Friday.

He says two of his players committed to play for the Cats next season and recalls the recruiting process.

“It was amazing. They got some high-profile coaches that happened to come to our school,” Montiel says. “Kids from our area know about Kentucky so they were always looking around and once they got offered by Kentucky, it was a no-brainer. It was an absolute yes.”

Montiel made the trip to the University of Kentucky campus as well and says he thinks his players are in good hands.

“The facilities are amazing. They’re outstanding.,” Montiel says. “They just redid a bunch of stuff, the building that the kids are going to be in is just second to none.”
