Catholic Action Center Opens 24 Hours During Cold
The Catholic Action Center is taking action to keep the homeless out of the cold.
On Thursday, the center on E. Fifth Street began operating 24 hours a day.
Catholic Action Center Director Ginny Ramsey said they only stay open around the clock in critical situations. Ramsey said this is one of those times. She said the Center would stay open until next Friday.
The center was packed with people trying to get out of the cold on Thursday night.
The center expects hundreds of people will need help during the cold snap.
Another shelter for the homeless under the Catholic Action Center, the Community Inn on Winchester Road, is operating seven days a week from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.

At GodsNet, Ramsey said they gave away 1,800 blankets from Wednesday to Thursday. She asked people to bring in any extra winter items they don’t need.
"Coats and hats and gloves, they’re not the kind of thing we had an excess of to begin with, but we’ve had hundreds of shoppers in the last two days," said Ramsey.
People can take donations to GodsNet on E 7th Street from 10AM-2PM Monday through Saturday.
