Casey’s donates $5k to God’s Food Pantry
Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — The convenience store “Casey’s” made a major donation to God’s pantry food bank in Lexington.
Casey’s donated a $5,000 check to God’s Food Pantry.
Officials with both Casey’s and the food pantry spoke about what this donation means to the community.
“Casey’s is new to the Lexington market and one of our giving strategies is around hunger,” said Jason Tallant, Casey’s Regional Director. “So, we wanted to donate $5,000 today to God’s pantry, you know on behalf of the Casey’s team here and the Lexington market.”
After presenting the check to the food pantry, members of the Casey’s staff helped stock the shelves and clean the pantry.
“It’s great to see the involvement of the community, especially in Kentucky,” said Joley Helton, the Fayette County Pantry Coordinator. “I feel like we’re a very community oriented group of people. That’s really just a testament to the way the community comes together to support those in need.”
According to Helton, the Fayette County Pantry Program sees the need consistently rising for many reasons. Such as the loss of a job, the cost of groceries or insufficient food benefits.
And with this money, God’s Food Pantry will be able to help out so many people.
“So, a dollar makes a big difference,” said Helton. “The way food banking works, we can stretch a dollar much further than you would be able to at the grocery store. So, it makes more meals than you would be able to buy with that amount of money outside of food banking.”
