Car on I-75 catches fire, traffic backed up for hours

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Traffic on I-75 southbound was backed up for miles today when a car caught on fire after being in a multi-vehicle crash this afternoon.

According to Michael Hennigan, Director of Emergency Management in Scott County, the accident happened around 12:40 PM.

The accident happened at mile marker 121.6 southbound near the Fayette and Scott County line. According to Hennigan, a white car struck the concrete barrier, spinning into traffic. A black car tried to avoid it by slamming on the breaks, and while stopped, a tractor trailer hit the black car on the driver’s side. The black car then caught fire.

Three people were inside the black car, but all were able to get out before it caught fire. Police are still looking for the driver of the white car that initially spun into traffic as it drove off from the accident.

No injuries were reported.
