Canned food drive can help Lexington drivers pay for tickets

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Parking Authority says it’s once again holding its popular Food for Fines program.

LEXPARK says from November 25 to December 20, customers who bring in 10 cans of food will receive $15 off any LEXPARK or Lexington Police issued parking ticket.

They also say drivers with multiple tickets can bring in as many cans as they want and receive a $15 credit for every set of 10 cans. Past due tickets are also eligible.

The parking authority says all canned food donations will be donated to God’s Pantry Food Bank. Canned vegetables that are at least 14-15 ounces large and protein items such as canned meat, beans, or peanut butter are suggested.

During the previous five years, LEXPARK says it has collected more than 39,500 food items, which equals 30,000 meals.

Authorities say expired, damaged or opened food donations will not be accepted.
