Candlelight Vigil Held In Lexington For California Shooting Victims

Even though the shootings happened about 2,000 miles away, a candlelight vigil was held in Lexington’s Woodland Park Friday night for victims of the recent shooting rampage in Santa Barbara, California.

Police said Elliot Rodger killed six people and wounded thirteen more after vowing to take revenge against women for rejecting him.

The vigil in Lexington focused on violence against women.

It was hosted by the feminist publication, MISS’ING Magazine.

Magazine Editor Tyler Simonds said, "The vigil was in response to the sexist and racist rants the shooter posted online in the months leading up to the attack, in which he swore he would ‘slaughter sorority bitches’ and frequented several sites that are listed as misogynist hate sites by the ACLU.  This is why we emphasized the role of misogyny in inflicting violence against women, including our community."
