Camper still missing in Red River Gorge

MENIFEE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Search and rescue teams from multiple departments spent almost 24 hours Wednesday searching for a camper who went missing in the Red River Gorge.

Leslie Reynolds, 29, was camping near Frog’s Head Rock, a place search and rescue says he’s been several times before, but usually with his cousin. This time, he went alone.

According to search and rescue, Reynolds suffered a traumatic brain injury back in 2012, and is on medication for it. He forgot to take that medication camping with him. Search and rescue says he’s not in his right mind when he doesn’t take the medicine.

His mom was supposed to have his medication taken to him, and Reynolds was supposed to come down to his car in the parking lot to get it.

It was around 9:30 Tuesday night that search and rescue says Reynolds texted his mom, saying he was lost. Since then, no one has been able to get in touch with him.

Rescue efforts Wednesday went on for hours. They found Reynold’s small campsite, but not him.

Anyone who may know where Reynolds is, is asked to contact Powell County Search and Rescue.

If you plan on hiking in the gorge, you’re asked to avoid the area around Bison Way Trail. That’s the one leading to Frog’s Head Rock and the Indian Staircase.

The search will start again at 8 Thursday morning.
