Suspect arrested in Campbellsville University student death

Campbellsville, Ky. (WTVQ) — UPDATE 9:42 P.M.

Campbellsville police have arrested one person in connection to the death of a Campbellsville University student.

Police arrested 21-year-old Charles Escalera just after 5 p.m. , after receiving a call of a suspicious male inside a barn.

A warrant for the arrest of Escalera was issued earlier for the murder of 18-year-old Campbellsville University student Josiah Kilman.

The university confirmed in a Facebook post that Escalera is a student at the university.

Kentucky State Police and the Green County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and arrested Escalera.

He is currently being held at the Taylor County Detention Center.

Campbellsville police are investigating the death of a Campbellsville University student.

In a press release posted to Facebook, the university said a male student was found unresponsive in their dorm room early Saturday morning.

The student was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The student’s identity and cause of death have not yet been released.

Law enforcement are looking for a person of interest connected to the death investigation.

According to the university’s release, police have not identified a continued threat to students but advise all students and residents to be on high alert.

Dr. Joseph Hopkins, Campbellsville University President, released a statement on the student’s passing.
“Campbellsville University is grieving the loss of one of our family,” said Dr. Hopkins. “We have lost a student and our hearts are broken. During this devastating time, the continued safety of our students and the residents of our community are our primary concern. With consultation from local law enforcement, we will continue to implement every measure necessary to protect and support students in our community.”
