Calm and warm to wrap up the month of September

Most staying dry today

Almost everyone will be dry through the day, starting with mostly clear skies. Cloud cover will increase throughout the day, with partly cloudy skies by the afternoon. There will still be plenty of sunshine, as temperatures will reach the mid-80s. This is nearly 10 degrees above average for this time of year. Southeastern KY will have slightly more cloud cover, along with a chance for a few isolated showers this afternoon, thanks to Tropical Storm Imelda. Most will stay dry, though, especially to the north and west.

Mild and clear tonight

Clouds will clear once the sun sets, leaving us with some lovely stargazing conditions. Stargazing may be especially interesting for some tonight as there is a G3 geomagnetic storm forecasted for tonight. This will bring the sight line for the aurora down to northern Indiana and Ohio. This, of course, does not include any of Kentucky; however, I do believe that those in rural areas of southern IN, OH, and northern KY may be able to catch some color in the sky through a camera. Unfortunately, there will not be anything visible to the naked eye this far south. You will likely not be able to capture anything if you are near a city or town.

A warm start to October

Tomorrow marks the beginning of October, and temperatures are continuing to trend in the low 80s for the end of our week and into the weekend. Long-term temperature outlooks also have us staying above average. Keep in mind that our average temperature continues to go down as we head deeper into fall, so daytime highs will dip as well. They will just feel closer to early-fall/late-summer rather than mid-fall.
