Cable barrier project beginning on I-64 in eastern Kentucky

OLIVE HILL, Ky. (AP) – A cable median barrier project gets underway this week on Interstate 64 in eastern Kentucky.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says motorists should watch for lane closures in the area, which runs from mile markers 161 to 181 in Carter and Boyd counties.

The agency said in a news release that contractors expect to start work Monday in Carter County and work eastward in approximately two-mile sections.

One-lane traffic is possible with intermittent shoulder and fast-lane closures inside the two-mile work zones. Message boards will carry instructions, and warning signs will be posted. Speed limits may be reduced.

Work is being done by the George B. Stone Co. under a $3 million contract and will continue through November.
