Busy times are ahead
Meteorologist Jordan Smith has your Thursday morning ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
Lexington, Kentucky (WTVQ – ABC 36): Good Thursday everyone, we have a calm and sunny day in store that you’ll want to enjoy. Temperatures this afternoon are above average into the upper 40s to near 5o under a mostly sunny sky.
Friday starts dry but heavy rain and storms quickly increase into the morning and last into the early evening.
Rain totals will not be as high as what we seen on Tuesday, but still .25″ – local 1″ amounts are likely.
High winds are going to be the bigger issues and for that reason we have a WIND ADVISORY out for the entire region through 7:00am Saturday.
Models continue to spit out wind gust over 50mph.
Wind damage and power outages are very possible once again across the state. We even have a LOW end severe weather threat with a “MARGINAL RISK” across the region. Any severe storm that goes up would bring damaging winds, our tornado threat is pretty much zero but still there.
Behind the rain comes a drastic drop in temperatures. We will drop into the upper 20s by Friday evening, so with lingering moisture on pavements and light snow showers going up, a few slick spots will certainly be possible.
That is system one of two that I am tracking. Our next one comes Sunday night – Monday with snow looking likely across all of central and eastern Kentucky.
While I feel very confident that it will snow, the exact details and amounts still need to be lined out and we will do that over the next couple of days. One thing we know next week is the arctic air that looks to dive into Kentucky. Highs in the teens, lows in the single digits, and WELL below 0 wind chills look likely.
BUSY BUSY BUSY times are ahead!! Make sure you stay up to date and safe through it all with the ABC 36 Storm Team! #kywx
