Business accused of promoting witchcraft
WINCHESTER, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Controversy in Winchester regarding a local business that some people claim promotes witchcraft.
Shannon Tipton, the owner of the crystal coven, spoke about the claims and her plans going forward.
“It saddens me that things have gotten as bad as they’ve gotten,” said Tipton.
Tipton says this all began after Winchester Tourism promoted the business back on April 5.
“There was a meeting that tourism related to law, the taxpayer dollars, we’re paying to advertise or promote my business,” said Tipton.
According to Tipton, people in the community claim her business promotes witchcraft.
She wishes people would just speak with her, before coming to these assumptions.
Tipton says her store sells crystals and promotes holistic living.
“I wish they would just come into my shop and talk with me look around my shop, ask questions and gather the information for themselves.”
Tipton says this has actually hurt business.
“Some of my folks are afraid even to come in folks that I saw on a regular basis have called us and I’m sorry, you know, I love you I support you but you know I’m not gonna come in.”
During a meeting of the Clark County Fiscal Court, people were able to discuss the controversy during public comment.
Tipton hopes this will finally put things to rest.
“So my hope moving forward is that we understand that we all don’t have to be put into a box. We can all live in harmony, and we can share this community”
During the meeting people from both sides spoke their opinions on the matter.
