Bundle up for Black Friday shopping, and be aware this weekend

Black Friday

Morning temperatures continue to drop, leaving us in the low 20s and upper teens to start. Wind chill values are still 5-10 degrees below average, so it’s feeling closer to the low teens. This will remain the same throughout the day. So by the afternoon, air temperatures will reach the mid-30s, but we’re feeling more like the 20s. Skies will be clear all through the day with a western breeze.

Weekend Forecast

Saturday starts cold in the 20s, but most of the day will be calm with some clouds moving through. Temperatures will recover a bit, reaching the low 40s by the afternoon. A low-pressure system off to our west will begin to move into the commonwealth Saturday afternoon. A warm front attached to this system will determine the precipitation type we see. As of right now, it appears to take a northern route, which will put us behind the front and into the warm sector. This means we may see a few flurries Saturday evening, but this will quickly transition to a cold rain through the night and into Sunday morning. However, if the system shifts south, then we will be ahead of the warm front, and we may see a bit more snow.

As of now, we expect only minor impacts. There may be a few click spots on bridges and overpasses. Little to no accumulation is expected except for possible high elevation areas in the mountains, mainly along the Virginia border. We will see the system clearing out by Sunday evening.

Next Week

Monday looks to be quite calm, with some leftover cloud cover. Temperatures will likely be below average in the upper 30s. Monday night, another system appears to track through the Bluegrass. Since this is still so far out, it is quite difficult to forecast with confidence. As of now, we know that snow is a possibility. It is hard to know what impacts we can expect, but this will become clearer as we get closer. Just be sure to remain weather aware through the beginning of next week, and know that active weather is likely.
