Build-A-Bear’s Pay Your Age is back, but with new rules

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Build-A-Bear Workshop’s Pay Your Age promotion is back, but this time the company has a plan to avoid the chaos created by last year’s event.

Last year’s one-day-only event drew tens of thousands to malls across the country, creating long lines and forcing some stores to close early.

In Lexington, thousands lined up at the Fayette Mall for a chance to get a bear, some waiting in line for hours, only to be sent away empty-handed when the store closed early due to security concerns.

The company issued $15 vouchers for those who weren’t able to take advantage of the deal.

Build-A-Bear said it didn’t anticipate the massive response to the promotion and is implementing rules to control crowds this year.

The company says 200,000 tickets nationwide will be awarded to customers who sign up by June 16th on the Build-A-Bear website.

Those tickets can be redeemed June 24th through 28th for a customized stuffed toy.

Build-A-Bear will also extend the price special on Birthday Treat bears all year, which means anyone who signs up for the company’s rewards program can buy that particular bear at discount during their child’s birthday month.
