Buffalo Trace celebrates Bottled-in-Bond Day
Frankfort, Ky. (WTVQ) — It was a big day for Buffalo Trace Distillery on Sunday.
The distillery celebrated E.H. Taylor, Jr. and Bottled-in-Bond day.
Sunday was the 127th anniversary of the Bottled-in-Bond act of 1897.
The act came after reaction for whiskey producers were putting in bottles and naming whiskey.
Buffalo Trace had over 2,000 people come out to participate in the celebration and sampling E.H. Taylor, Jr. whiskey.
In honor of the event, Buffalo Trace provided more than 300 bottles to 100 organizations spanning 36 states as part of their 100 bourbon sets for 100 charities initiative
Matt Miggins, Guest Experience Director at Buffalo Trace, spoke about how the bottled-in-bond act is still used today.
“The bottled-in-bond act is still active today, people still label under it,” said Higgins. “So to be considered ‘bottled-in-bond’ your product has to come from one distillation season, that’s either a spring or fall distillation season. It must be aged in government supervised bonded warehouses and it has to be bottled at 100 proof after spending four years in the barrel.”
Higgins says the interest in bourbon and bourbon tourism has grown in the last 10 years and it makes him feel really good about what the future holds for the industry.
