Brief relief from the high humidity on Tuesday
Partly-to-mostly sunny skies and lower humidity expected on Tuesday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After a stretch of muggy days and steamy afternoons, central and eastern Kentucky will finally enjoy a break from the high humidity today. Drier air has worked its way in behind a weak front, giving us a refreshing start to Tuesday, especially across the Bluegrass. Areas farther south — particularly south of the Hal Rogers Parkway — are still dealing with higher low-level moisture this morning, leading to patchy dense fog.
Visibility could be reduced in spots across parts of southeastern Kentucky, so allow a few extra minutes if you’re heading out early. Otherwise, morning clouds will gradually give way to sunshine this afternoon, setting the stage for a beautiful summer day.
Comfortable Tuesday… But It Won’t Last Long
Thanks to lower humidity and partly to mostly sunny skies, afternoon highs will top out in the mid-to-upper 80s, but it will feel more comfortable than recent days. Humidity levels will be more manageable, giving us a rare July day where it doesn’t feel like a steam bath.
Enjoy it while it lasts — the break in the humidity is short-lived. Starting Wednesday, a strong ridge of high pressure will build eastward, bringing in hotter, more humid air through the rest of the week.
Looking Ahead: Heat & Humidity Rebuild
By mid-to-late week, heat and humidity will return in full force. Highs will push into the low to mid 90s, and with dew points rising back into the 70s, heat indices will once again climb into the upper 90s and low 100s. While we’re not yet forecasting an official Weather Impact Day, the combination of high heat and moisture will make it feel oppressive, especially Thursday through the weekend.
Rain chances remain low through midweek, with only a stray shower or storm possible in southern Kentucky today, but coverage will increase Friday into the weekend as a boundary approaches from the north. This could help take the edge off the heat, but it will also bring higher humidity and the potential for scattered storms.
We’ll keep an eye on rising heat and storm chances later in the week — stay with ABC 36 for the latest updates.
