BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – With a budget approved, the Breathitt County Courthouse and other county offices reopened Thursday morning.
Addressing the community in a Facebook post, Sheriff John Hollan said, “Thank you all for your patience and support.”
A series of medical issues and other circumstances created a ‘perfect storm” that delayed passage of the 2021-22 budget for the county, prompting the state to order county offices closed late last month.

Breathitt County Courthouse to close.

The new budget year starts July 1 and local governments are supposed to have budgets approved and in place to officially provide funding.

The Fiscal Curt approved a budget on first reading June 24, but second reading isn’t scheduled until July 8.

The Breathitt County Sheriff’s Department said on Facebook: “The Breathitt County courthouse has been ordered to close by the Department of Local Government office located in Frankfort, KY. The Sheriff’s Department will continue with all law enforcement duties. The tax collection office is closed.”

Sheriff John Hollan said people needing assistance could call his cell phone or the Jackson Police Department or 911.
