Breaking: Gunman who opened fire at helicopter, deputies captured

CYNTHIANA, Ky. (WTVQ) – After a 24-hour manhunt in Harrison county, the Sheriff confirmed the gunman who opened fire at a utility helicopter and deputies has been captured.

The Sheriff’s office told ABC 36 —  Thomas VanMeter, 39 was arrested at a farm near White Oak and Rocky Springs in Cynthiana Tuesday morning.

On Monday, the dismissal of some students in Harrison County was delayed while authorities searched the area for VanMeter.

Classes were also canceled for Tuesday as a safety precaution.

There were no reports of injuries as a result of the shooting.

Detailed information on what motivated the suspect to shoot at the helicopter and later sheriff’s deputies has not been made available.
