Boyd County man charged in child porn case

ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Jonathan M. Whitt, 33, of Boyd County was arrested by the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Electronic Crime Branch on charges pertaining to child sexual abuse material.

The arrest came from an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation. According to KSP, the Electronic Crime Branch started looking into Whitt’s activities after they found him uploading pictures of child sexual exploitation online.

KSP obtained a search warrant for an Ashland residence and executed it on June 3. Equipment used to commit the crime was taken to KSP’s digital forensic laboratory for examination. The investigation is still continuing.

Whitt has been charged with one count of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and one count of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. He has been detained at the Boyd County Detention Center.

Over 26 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies make up the Kentucky ICAC Task Force. Created by the U.S. Department of Justice and managed by KSP, its mission is to help state and local law enforcement agencies in developing a response to cyber crimes related to enticement and child sexual abuse material investigations.
