Bourbonless distillery coming to Danville
DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky will soon be boasting another distillery, but unlike most other distilleries in the state, this one will not offer bourbon.
Instead, the distillery focuses on vodka, specifically cachaça, the national spirit of Brazil. Cachaça is a rum-like spirit made from Brazilian sugarcane.
Cachaça is known best inside Brazil’s national cocktail, a citrus drink called the Caipirinha, sometimes called a “Brazilian Margarita.”
AMBRAbev, for “American-Brazilian Beverage,” is determined to bring the taste of South America to the states.
The distillery concentrates on two main drinks, Espirito Cachaça and BOTECO Vodka.
Construction for the Danville distillery began in the summer of 2017, and is expected to be completed by the upcoming spring.
The new facility will accommodate in-house bottling of imported cachaça and cane vodka, barrel aging of cachaça, the production of flavored vodkas and a distillation operation for the production of additional spirits, including gin made from sugarcane.
The facility will also include a tasting area for tours, a tavern and a gift shop.
AMBRAbev currently distributes in 14 states and the District of Columbia.
