Bomb threat made against Knox County school

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – There was a scare at the start of the school day in Knox County on Wednesday.

Knox County Public Schools says it was contacted around 7 a.m. by police and told someone called to say there was a bomb at one of the schools, but did not say which school.

Police and school personnel searched inside and outside all county schools and, at one school, an old fire extinguisher was found outside, according to the district.

The Barbourville Fire Department was called to investigate and determined the extinguisher had been abandoned and posed no threat.

Knox County Public Schools says it was determined the bomb threat was a hoax and school was allowed to proceed.

The district says there was an increased security presence from local law enforcement at the schools, but only out of an abundance of caution.
