Arrest in Lexington after body found

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington police have arrested a man in connection with a body that was found early Wednesday morning in Lexington.

Officers say they responded to a call about an assault with a weapon on Nichols Park Drive around 2:20 a.m. When they arrived, officers say they found a man dead near the railroad tracks under the Man O’ War overpass.  The Fayette County Coroner’s Office says the victim is James “Doug” Holiness. Police say his body appeared to have been tampered with in an effort to conceal his identity.

Police say they began investigating the death as a homicide, and were able to obtain information that led them to a suspect, John B. Cawood.  Officers say Cawood was an acquaintance of the victim.  He was arrested and charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.

Police are investigating a death after a body was found in Lexington Wednesday morning.

Police were called to Nichols Park Drive at around 2:20 a.m. and found the body near the railroad tracks.

They did not say if it was a man or woman or if foul play is suspected in the death.

Police did say they took one person down the police headquarters for questioning.
