UPDATE: Body found in Magoffin County identified

UPDATE: (5-27-18)- State police are opening a death investigation in Magoffin County after a body was found there Saturday.

Troopers say around 8 PM they learned a man was found unresponsive in a creek on Johnson Fork Road in the Gunlock community.

The coroner identified the dead man as 33-year-old Joseph Smithers.

An autopsy is pending to determine his cause of death.

MAGOFFIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Magoffin County Coroner’s Office confirms a body has been found.

The coroner says the body was found in the Johnson Fork community.

No information has been released about the identity of the victim or a cause of death.
