Blue lights for Officer Ellis

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – People waited in a long line outside Bluegrass ACE Hardware in Richmond Monday. The store was giving out blue light bulbs to honor Officer Daniel Ellis.

Officer Ellis was shot on Wednesday while investigating an attempted robbery, according to Kentucky State Police. He was a seven-year veteran with the Richmond Police Department.

ACE Hardware ordered 2,000 blue light bulbs. The store gave them out for a donation that will go to the Ellis family.

We want people to light up their porches tonight, tomorrow night and Wednesday night with the blue lights in support of not only the Ellis family but also for the local police department and state troopers,” said Karen Preweitt of Bluegrass ACE Hardware.

The line quickly wrapped around the building and the store handed nearly all of the bulbs out within a hour.

As of six o’clock Monday night there still were some bulbs left.

The store thinks it raised five to seven thousand dollars for the Ellis family.
