LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Bundle up! It’s very cold out there for your Thursday. Arctic air has swept in behind a cold front that passed through overnight. Temperatures will likely continue to drop through the morning, bottoming out around the upper teens for northern Kentucky and around the low 20s for southern Kentucky by mid-to-late morning. Thanks to gusty winds, win chills will be very cold as well. You can expect single digit wind chills during the morning, only improving into the teens for the afternoon. Afternoon highs will only reach the mid-20s for most of area. This is over 20 degrees below average!
Winds will begin to slow down a bit later today and into the overnight. However, with temperatures falling into the teens, it won’t take much wind to make it feel very cold overnight. Temperatures on Friday morning will be in the teens area wide, with wind chills in the single digits. Friday afternoon will be slightly warmer, pushing the low 30s for most of the area. Cold temperatures continue Friday night and into the first half of the weekend.
Temperatures will start to climb by the end of the weekend. Sunday afternoon should peak right around average, into the upper 40s and low 50s for most. Unfortunately just as temperatures begin to warm up, rain will return to the forecast.
Rain returns to the forecast late Sunday into the day on Monday. A couple systems will be moving through the area through the middle of the next week. The first will bring some rain Sunday night into early Monday. The next will be moving in on Tuesday. Colder air will be pushing in behind this system and that could lead to a rain/snow chance by Wednesday.
