Big South Fork, Obed giving free night of camping

ONEIDA, Tenn. (AP) — The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area and the Obed Wild and Scenic River are giving a free night of camping at Alum Ford and Rock Creek Campgrounds as well as free backcountry permits.

The offer is in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday on Jan. 19.

Big South Fork says other fee-free days will be offered Feb. 14 to 16, Presidents Day weekend; April 18 and 19, opening weekend of National Park Week; Aug. 25, the National Park Service birthday; Sept. 26, National Public Lands Day; and Nov. 11, Veterans Day.

The national river and recreation area lies on the Tennessee-Kentucky border.
