BIACS hosts annual India Day
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Bluegrass Indo-American Civic Society (BIACS) hosted its annual India Day at the Moondance Amphitheater on Sunday.
The event began at 4:30 and lasted until 8:30. The event was free and open to the public.
Attendees were able to enjoy Indian cuisine, culture, craft, costumes, and entertainment.
“So this is to showcase our Indian culture by food, dances, music and many more other things like the games,” said BIACS President, Dr. Rajni Vaish. “So, this is a good platform to showcase the culture and Indian heritage to all.”
Sia Vaish, the Co-President of BIACS Youth Board, spoke about getting host an event like this.
“It’s just a way to show people around us that may not know about these things and really just share that part of us that usually doesn’t get to be seen,” said Sia.
BIACS has a membership of over 500 professionals in the Lexington area.
“I think we have such a rich and vast variety of culture that we want to share to our friends here in the Lexington community,” said BIACS Treasurer Geetika Rekhrai. “I think they should come here and just enjoy a wonderful day with us and just celebrate our own culture with us.”
BIACS also award over 30 scholarships to need-based deserving students graduated from high schools in Kentucky.
