UPDATE: According to Governor Andy Beshear, the death toll has risen to 14. Officials are still assessing damage and searching for survivors.
Sheriff John Root confirmed the tornado touched down around 11:49 p.m. on May 16, 2025, and tore across several major roads including Keavy Road, KY 1006, Old Whitley Road, and the London Corbin Airport. The storm caused “mass casualties” in its path and search crews are still combing the area for survivors.
Emergency responders from across the region are assisting in the effort, including local police and fire departments, Kentucky State Police, U.S. Marshals, and public safety and emergency management teams from Laurel and surrounding counties.
Authorities are urging the public to keep the victims and their families in their thoughts and to support rescue personnel during the ongoing response.
