Beshear hopes Ida doesn’t slow Nicholas disaster decision

NICHOLAS COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – In Carlisle and Nicholas County, dozens of property owners have been told their insurance isn’t going to cover July flood damage.

That leaves them depending even more on federal financial assistance. But the damage caused by Hurricane Ida this week has those property owners worried they’ll be pushed to the back of the list as federal inspectors respond to Louisiana.

Gov. Andy Beshear said today the Nicholas County claim should be answered soon. If Ida causes a problem, it’ll be processing claims later.

“It will be about whether the decision that approve or disapprove of the request will have the bandwidth and then it has to get in front of the president too. So I don’t think that the personnel that are down there can change it,” said Gov. Beshear. “Now, I do have a little bit of worries of when the person can show up to process the papers once we get the yes.”

More than 100 homes and businesses suffered major damage during the flooding July 31 in Carlisle.
