Berea schools go on brief lockdown following threat

BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – Some Madison County schools went on lockdown Friday after police say a man made threats against a school in a different county.

The Berea Police Department says it was called to O’Reilly Auto Parts around 9a.m. about a man who was making threats. Officers found the man, James R. Allen, outside another business.

Berea Community Schools went on lockdown for about 10 minutes while police arrested Allen.

After investigating, police say they determined Allen’s threat was not credible because he suffers from mental illness.

Police also say Allen was never on Berea Community Schools’ property.

Allen is charged with terroristic threatening.
