BBB: Phone scam targeting Kentucky businesses

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Better Business Bureau is warning Central Kentucky businesses about a phone scam.

According to the BBB, scammers are calling business, posing as a Kentucky Utilities employee and threatening to send a technician over to shut off the power if they don’t receive payment by phone right away.

At least two Lexington businesses have been targeted.

The BBB says both businesses called Kentucky Utilities and were told they owed no money and that the first phone call was a scam.

Kentucky Utilities says it will never call and threaten to shut off power, demand payment or ask for a credit/debit card number or any other personal identification.
