AVOL holds 31st Annual AIDS Walk

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – AVOL Kentucky held it’s 31st Annual AIDS walk downtown on Sunday.

Held at Stephen’s Courthouse Plaza, the hope of the AIDS walk is to raise awareness about HIV and to show support for those living with the disease.

The event began at 1 p.m.

Executive director Jon Parker says this event helps give people the opportunity to recommit to the cause of serving people who have HIV or AIDS.

“It’s always the highlight of the year where we kind of get to gather together, recommit, spend some time remembering where we’ve come from and maybe the people that we’ve lost and the pain and suffering along the way,” said Parker. “But also to celebrate moving forward and new hope and really establishing that around the community.”

Parker was proud to announce AVOL’s new telehealth prep program, which allows them to get people connected to prep easier. 31

The walk began at 2 p.m. and wrapped up shortly after.
