Attorney General says confederate monument in Capitol should be removed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS/WTVQ)- ABC 36 reported Friday the NAACP is renewing its fight to get a confederate monument removed from the State Capitol in Frankfort.

That comes after deadly violence in Charlottesville and a unanimous council vote this week to move two similar statues in Lexington.

Now, attorney general Andy Beshear is getting involved.

He took a strong stance Saturday, saying he thinks the Jefferson Davis statue in the rotunda needs to go.

Governor Bevin recently said he was against removing confederate symbols from government property, calling it a “sanitization of history”.

The Governor later added the decision to remove public art should be left to the people.
