‘Atreides’ filly tops yearling sale at Keeneland Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Martin Anthony paid $175,000 for a filly from the first crop of Atreides to be the most expensive purchase during Wednesday’s ninth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

Keeneland sold 266 yearlings today for $8,839,600, for an average of $33,232 and a median of $25,000. Cumulatively, 2,006 yearlings have grossed $297,708,600, for an average of $148,409 and a median of $85,000.

Consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, the session-topper is a half-sister to graded stakes-placed winners Moe Candy and Holy Candy, and stakes-placed Silver Assault. She is out of the Deputy Minister mare Spooky Minister.

A colt from the first crop of Mucho Macho Man sold for $170,000 to Michael Neatherlin to be the day’s second-highest priced horse. Consigned by Select Sales, agent, the colt is out of the winning Cherokee Run mare Dusty Rose and from the family of Canadian champion Chief Bearhart.

Neatherlin bought three yearlings for $285,000 to be the day’s leading buyer.

Ben Glass, agent, went to $165,000 to purchase a Mineshaft colt out of the winning Forestry mare Joels Last Laugh, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Ponzi Scheme and Uno Mas. The colt was consigned by Lane’s End, agent.

Lane’s End was the session’s leading consignor, selling 34 horses for $1,171,200.
