Asbury University offers training for work in film industry

WILMORE, Ky. (AP) – A Kentucky college says it wants to help people who aspire to work in the film industry.

Asbury University on Tuesday announced a workforce development initiative to help people get the skills needed to break into the film industry. The school says the certificate can be earned in a matter of weeks, and does not require completion of a two-year or four-year degree program.

State officials say film makers produced 36 movies in Kentucky last year. The Kentucky Film Office has approved an additional 136 movies this year for production.

Officials say that growth means the industry needs more Kentuckians trained in filmmaking.

The Kentucky Film Certification Program offers training in such specialties as audio, camera, grip, electric, production, set construction and others.
