Asbury students headed to Louisiana to provide disaster relief

WILMORE, Ky. (WTVQ) —Asbury University says that sixteen students will travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana this weekend to provide disaster relief to victims of flooding in the area.

Students will partner with Disaster Relief at Work (DRAW), an organization directed by Asbury alumnus Greg Martin. All day Friday and Saturday, students will be disinfecting, cleaning houses, removing debris and damaged furniture, distributing supplies and more.

Asbury senior Tyler Meynardie says that while volunteering may mean time away from school, it’s all part of their education.

“We talk a lot at Asbury about sending people out to serve in all corners of the world, and what we’re doing this this weekend is fulfilling that,” Meynardie said. “We’re going there to help people, and we’re going to work hard… that’s what Asbury’s about — and that’s why I’m here.”
