Arrest made after early September pursuit in Whitley Co.

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) -Deputies in Whitley Co. have arrested a man they say ran from them back in early September.

Deputies say on September 6 they saw a woman jump out of a silver SUV at the intersection of 5th Street and Black Diamond Road.  A deputy was able to pull over the vehicle at first, but says the driver took off once the deputy got out of the car.  Investigators say this instigated a pursuit, in which the driver was recklessly running other cars off the road to get away.  According to deputies, the driver then hid the car in a wooded area, took off on foot, and got away.

The driver was identified as 45-year-old Jonathan D. Coffey of Corbin.  A warrant for his arrest was issued for fleeing and evading, reckless driving, and kidnapping.  He was arrested on September 20 and taken to the Whitley Co. Detention Center.

The woman who jumped from the SUV refused treatment from EMS and was taken to a near by home by the Corbin Police Department. She was identified to be the wife of Mr. Coffey.
