Applicants chosen for Kentucky elk hunt, available online

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Applicants for the 2015 Kentucky quota elk hunt have been drawn.

Anyone who submitted one of the 70,348 applications can check the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources’ website here to see if the application was drawn. Click on the "My Profile" tab to check the status.

The department said more than 34,000 people from as far away as Hawaii submitted applications for the hunt.

Kentucky has the biggest elk herd east of the Mississippi River. The state opened a season for elk in 2001.

The Commonwealth Office of Technology performed an independent drawing to determine the winners and type of permit to be issued. Kentucky will issue 900 general and 10 youth quota elk hunting permits for the 2015-16 season.
