Appeals court taking up Medal of Honor case

CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal appeals court is taking up a case brought by the widow of World War II veteran from southern Kentucky seeking to require the U.S. Army to review an application to award her husband a Medal of Honor.

Lyda P. Conner of Albany, Kentucky, near the Tennessee state line, has waged a 17-year campaign to have the Army to look again at the service record of the late Lt. Garlin Murl Conner. She wants the court to overturn a ruling that she waited too long to present new evidence to the Army Board for Correction of Military Records.

Garlin Conner was a member of the 3rd Infantry Division. Conner was wounded seven times and was awarded four Silver Stars.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has set arguments for Friday.
