Another round of rain and storms expected Thursday
A Flood Watch is in effect for most of the ABC 36 viewing area on Thursday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – More rain and storms in the forecast on Thursday. There is a Flood Watch in effect for most of the ABC 36 viewing area from 2 PM Thursday through Midnight. This won’t be widespread flooding but localized flooding in low-lying and flood prone areas will be possible in areas that receive excessive rainfall rates.
Storms will be dropping in out of the north and west during the second half of the day. A few stronger storms will be possible and that is why there is also a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) for severe storms. Isolated strong-to-damaging wind gusts within the strongest parts of the storms will be possible.
This rain and storm threat is ahead of a frontal boundary that will be dropping into the area and stalling on on Friday. This will allow for more showers and thunderstorms to fire up during the day. For the weekend into next week, we will be watching for more organized clusters of storms dropping in from the northwest.
The Weather Prediction Center is already highlighting the area for a Level 2 out 4 (Slight Risk) for flash flooding for both Saturday and Sunday. If you’re going camping in a low-lying and flood prone area, make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts and a place to go if a Flash Flood Warning is issued for your area.
