Another cold day ahead of Christmas warm-up

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

It’s a COLD start to your Tuesday with temps in the upper teens and low 20s. Wind chill temperatures dropped as cold as below zero at the Harlan County Kentucky Mesonet Site Tuesday morning. You’ll need the winter jacket all day today as afternoon highs will only reach the mid-30s for most. There will be a lot of sunshine in the forecast as high pressure builds across the region today.

Overnight temperatures will drop once again thanks to the clear skies and calm winds. Overnight lows will range from the upper teens to the low 20s for most areas.

Temperature Trend

This is the last of the cold as temps will climb for the rest of the week. Afternoon highs on Wednesday will peak right around 50, before climbing into the mid-50s by the end of the week. This will likely continue through the Christmas holiday. Most of the eastern US will be experiencing above average temperatures for Christmas, a big change from the frigid conditions we experienced during the Christmas weekend last year.

Temperature Outlook

It won’t only be mild this weekend, but we will also be tracking rain chances increasing heading into Christmas. Rain chances will be around this weekend but will be mainly isolated and it won’t likely be a washout. However, rain chances will be increasing for Christmas day itself. This will likely continue into the middle of next week as well. Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
