Philanthropy challenge kicks off Giving Tuesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – After a weekend full of shopping, an annual philanthropy challenge will kick off on Giving Tuesday in Lexington.

The GoodGiving Challenge is hosted by Blue Grass Community Foundation and Smiley Pete Publishing.  It will connect people with 131 local nonprofits from December 3 – 9, 2019.

“We want to just boost the spirit of philanthropy in Lexington and surrounding counties,” said Lauren Parsons, Bluegrass Community Foundation.

On Tuesday, the mayor of Lexington declared it GoodGiving Challenge week.

Since it began in 2011, the GoodGiving Challenge has raised $10 million for nonprofits.

This year, officials say the GoodGiving Challenges features over $440,000 in matching prizes that may increase donations by as much as 50-to-100 percent.
