Amy McGrath’s campaign raises a record-breaking $2.5 million in one day
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Amy McGrath’s campaign announced Wednesday she raised more than $2.5 million within 24 hours of announcing her challenge to U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Her campaign says it is the most money raised in the first day of a campaign by a candidate in a U.S. senate race.
All of the $2.5 million came in online donations, with an average donation of $36.15, and over $1 million of it coming in just the first five and a half hours, according to her campaign.
The Kentucky Democrat and former fighter pilot gained national attention last year when she ran for Congress against Republican Andy Barr.
McGrath failed to win against Barr, who won by about 3 points, despite being outspent by McGrath by nearly $3 million.
Analysts are already predicting this could be one of the most expensive Senate races of 2020.
