Accused truck thief held at gunpoint by victim after pickup wouldn’t start
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Letcher County man had some bad luck on what turned out to be a really bad day.
Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies say 31-year-old Jeffrey Dixon, of Blackey, tried to hotwire and steal a pickup truck from a private driveway Tuesday night. They say what Dixon didn’t know was, the pickup didn’t run.
On top of that, the truck’s owner heard the commotion outside and came out and held Dixon at gunpoint while calling authorities, according to investigators.
Deputies say Dixon eventually got away from the truck owner and ran off across the Hal Rogers Parkway onto a side road. Deputies say when they found Dixon, he was very agitated, refused all commands and told them to shoot him.
According to deputies, they were able to eventually arrest Dixon after a brief scuffle. They say he was under the influence.
Deputies say Dixon was charged with attempted theft of auto, criminal trespassing, menacing, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
